Western Tiers

The Division of Western Tiers centres on the mountain range officially known as the Great Western Tiers. (Koorparoona Niara is said to be the aboriginal name for the region).

The Western Tiers rise 1420m above sea level and the area includes Lake Rowallan (a Legislative Council Division was named Rowallan between 1999 and 2008). Other geographical features include Liffey Falls, Marakoopa Cave, King Solomon’s Cave and Lake McKenzie.

Towns in the division include Bracknell, Bothwell Chudleigh, Cressy, Deloraine, Hadspen, Longford, Meander, Mole Creek, Perth Port Sorell, Sheffield, Railton and Westbury.

The name Western Tiers was used in preference to Great Western Tiers for simplicity. It was also taken into account that the Western Tiers can be seen by people living in 4 out of 5 local government areas in the Division and because it forms part of the Central Highlands, which is the 5th municipality in the division.
